And there is no denying that I want one. The same solidity, build quality, and excellent dynamics of the Golf GTI with the angular body of the Seat Leon. With the added practicality of an added roof section to create a practical wagon. While we do get the Seat Leon SC and Hatch in Mexico, we have never been granted the opportunity to buy it in Wagon (ST) form. Seat has never sold any car here as a wagon, so I doubt this will happen. I hope at least one of these gets across the ocean because its just too damn good for Europe to have it all by itself.

Yeah and a 0-60 of 6.0 seconds instead of 4.9. That's a considerable performance gap.
This is more like the Golf R's buck-toothed uncle. The front looks like a cross between a Suzuki grill and some sort of Korean sedan.

![]() 01/10/2015 at 17:12 |

Ah no. The Seat does it in 5.6, the Golf 5.2. Plus the Seat is much lighter so a lot better through the corners but that isn't a surprise since if you want the fastest VW group hot hatch you buy the Seat.

Looks like a Volvo. I'll buy one.

Plus: You have that issue with every car in europe.. espacially in germany. You always pay a lot for gas and the R und Cupras have a pretty reasonable mileage.. so..

I take the Golf R estate car and park it in my garage, as I have VW in the past and I always enjoyed them. being British I called it an estate car instead of wagon.

You've quoted the non-DSG time for the Golf R actually.

My wife bought a fully loaded Leon ST FR spec. before Christmas and I have to say it's a stunning car to drive. It's the diesel 184bhp, DSG variant.... The amazing thing is, she needed no input from me when ordering... She wanted everything....
I also tested a 5 door Cupra ant it was sublime. For us Euros, you have to remember that these cars come in significantly cheaper than their VW/Audi counterparts.... In the case of the Cupra, it's 10k less over the R... albeit without the AWD, but as tests have shown, the Cupra may actually be the better for it.... Spec levels are also higher in the Seat and adding equipment is significantly cheaper - for the same kit pretty much.... You nget a whole lot of car for the money. My wife's car cost 38k.... the Golf with the same kit would cost over 45k and the A3 sportwagon over 50k.... Yeah, we Euros get reamed but there you go....
Anyhow, the diesel drives incredibly well and I'm really looking forward to testing the Cupra ST....
As an aside I have a new euro-model Passat 2,0 twin turbo 240bhp 4Motion arriving in about one month..... I totally can't wait for that to land!
![]() 01/10/2015 at 19:59 |

Well you've proven the point that there's some discrepancy between varying automotive press figures.
I didn't see an ST version on of the Cupra there though. Did they name it differently on parkers?
![]() 01/10/2015 at 20:08 |
|
Nah, I was comparing Hatch figures. Either way, I'm happy we have a bunch of super estates again that said three of them (Cupra, Golf & Octavia) are the same car underneath fortunately they all have a legit reason for existing.

Seat- Speed

Here in Spain, only people who can't afford the other VAG brands buy Seat, it's like buying a cheap crappy Audi, loads of cheap looking plastic, buttons that wear off quickly, pieces you recognise ass from older VAG models, shitty sound insulation, I could just go on and on.
I'm not saying they are a complete crap, it's just that you get what you pay for, the cheapest VAG group brand, and that's got to show somewhere...
PD: The MK1 Cupra is the real deal ;P

Also, as far as im concerned, they are built in Mexico. 1 of them will get to the US.

A Volvo dangerously injected with Botox.
![]() 01/10/2015 at 22:49 |

I also prefer it to the Golf, but I would take the Golf for practicality.
![]() 01/10/2015 at 22:50 |
|
I don't think they would at all. I think that if VW of America do bring them and sell Seats as a side company (Like Chrysler and Fiat) they can bring a lot more people in and fall in love with the company.
![]() 01/10/2015 at 22:51 |

Is Skoda a better Volkswagen than Volkswagen? I think it is.

![]() 01/10/2015 at 23:23 |

Toyota Venza!
![]() 01/10/2015 at 23:39 |
|
It does look good in that picture, but there is something about the Golf R in real life that I find really attractive.
![]() 01/10/2015 at 23:42 |
|
They look almost identical, and the Venza comes dangerously close to the same hp and torque with a v6. Venza, however, comes with awd. Would you get excited by a Venza?
![]() 01/10/2015 at 23:43 |
|
I wouldn't get excited by the Venza because every mechanical part was developed to be smooth, not agile.
Also, they don't look identical.
![]() 01/10/2015 at 23:44 |
|
See the Leon in person and preferences will change!
![]() 01/10/2015 at 23:52 |
|
I can definitely fap to this.
![]() 01/10/2015 at 23:54 |
|
Not identical, almost identical. Ridiculously similar. But the Venza is cheaper.
I love sport wagons. I can't get excited about a Spanish Venza.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 00:22 |

Yeah, they all certainly beat the shit out of my old 1.8T.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 00:46 |

Can I get it in brown?
![]() 01/11/2015 at 01:26 |
|
It's cool...but I'd rather have an R wagon: AWD, classier but not Audi-boring, and let's remember SEATs are basically built to the same options spec as US Passats. Put the two in a dealer and my money would go for the R Sportwagen. The Cupra Wagen will cost as much as as a Golf R but be the practical cheaper funner alternative...that's just a big ass to be pulled by the front wheels!
![]() 01/11/2015 at 02:25 |
|
I've fallen in love with the new Cupra series. Goddamn it I want one so bad.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 03:45 |

It is too bad Seat is not in America. I would never import a Seat because I would have a hard time guessing which parts to get at a parts store. Also I would have to special order body parts for the car.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 04:10 |
|
The build quality of veedubs gets mocked here often. Why not this time? Seats and Skodas are veedubs in disguise. They're all considered pretty good over here and seem to sell well, especially the skodas, as they tend to get you more for less.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 04:11 |
|
Absolutely. Manual, sir?
![]() 01/11/2015 at 04:12 |

The seat looks like the a3 for some reason. But in the end, they're all the same car anyway.

Good point! Well spotted.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 04:16 |

Incredible. Here in the Netherlands, Seat is regarded as a sporty brand and often preferred over VW. Only Skoda sells more, as they're fully loaded at a lower price point.

Off topic, but I was in Andalusia a few weeks ago, and exactly every single car that had been on the road for, perhaps, a week or more had dents and scratches everywhere... I was kind of sad, not even the rarer and sportier cars had been spared! It has to be a nightmare for enthusiasts over there! Is this something applicable only to southern Spain or is the entire country filled with doomed cars?

Passat is arriving in 6 weeks or so. It's the version with the new 240bhp twin turbo diesel. Highline trim level, DSG, 4motion and DCC as standard. I've speced it high - I too love my VAG cars. It'll have the 19" wheels, comes in tungsten silver, black leather and discover pro with active info display.... All driving aids and dynaudio hifi too....
Replacing my B7 Passat. An 11 highline sport pretty much fully loaded and in phantom black pearl. A lovely car. Selling it to a buddy for good money!
